When a component composed of atoms that commonly shed electrons (a metal) reacts with a component composed of atoms that commonly achieve electrons (a nonmetal), a transfer of electrons commonly happens, creating ions. The compound formed by this transfer is stabilized with the electrostatic points of interest (ionic bonds) between the ions of oppo
